That's a bad blogger! Bad Blogger!

I didn't have an entry last night, and this measly entry is all for tonight. The reason is poker. Actually, the reason is because I'm addicted to poker. Actually,in actuality the reason is because I've actually been bringing in more money than I've been losing. At last count, I'm up $110 in the...oh, I don't know, about 2 1/2 months I've been playing. Yeah, it's only taken me 2 1/2 months to make $110, about 30 or 40 of which I could easily lose tonight.

Just a hint -- if I miss a weekday entry, you can bet (more gambling!) it's because of poker. I'd like to tell you it's because I'm out with a beautiful woman, but lately my dates have been so far apart that they'd need binoculars to see each other on the calendar, so I won't use that particular lie just yet.

Wish me luck, and since I have...oh, my gosh...a weekend off, I can throw in an entry or two in the next two days.

One of the many great things about hold 'em is, now that it is on TV about 40 hours a week, there are enough newish players out there where I no longer stick out like soar thumb (you guys playing cards?)! Of course I have been playing for about thirty years, so give the newbies about another two weeks before I sink back to "decidedly below average" ...

It took me a couple thousand hands before I finally realized what the most important aspects of the game are: patience, and knowing when to fold. Early on, I thought it was all in what cards you got, but after winning with crappy cards enough times (after staying in the hand because it was cheap to do so), and getting burned lots even after I was dealt great cards, it's all about knowing when you should get out. The name of the game is survival until you can bring it down to three or four people -- then your chances of winning when dealt those over cards are much better than with 8 or 10 people.

Too much fun, though. A few of us have been talking tournaments, but I don't trust myself enough quite yet to throw out $200 for a casino tournament. Maybe after another couple of months...
